Building a sustainable future for our urbanizing areas requires more than good research. We need to design mechanisms to apply what is learned and ensure that regional needs shape and inform the research. The Sustainability Partnership is an innovative group that spans the boundaries between researchers and practitioners. It works with local and state policy makers, resource managers, and industry leaders to help communities plan for sustainable land use and population growth, plan regional open-space corridors, develop water-supply and aquifer-management strategies, and provides interdisciplinary workshop courses tailored to individual client needs.

With applied projects and regular dialogue, the Partnership seeks to understand the interplay of land use, transportation, environment development, and quality of life. It offers technical assistance, produces planning studies, policy analyses, and scientific reports, and facilitates applied research to aid decision making and public policy.
